Beyond the Surface: The Illusion of Depth in Art Lecture Sunday, April 6th 4:00-6:00pm
How artists create images that appear to depict three dimensional space on flat surfaces. For most of human history, the fundamental role of the artist was to chronicle important events, customs and beliefs that impacted their societies and visually communicate them to the rest of the population.
To do this effectively, the artists needed to create convincing images that could be easily understood by the average viewer...they had to look real. In the artist's quest for realism, the believable representation of three dimensional space was key. Opening with images of prehistoric cave paintings and progressing to modern contemporary art, this presentation is a visual journey through history that explores how artists met that challenge.
2 Hour Lecture: Sunday, April 6th 4:00-6:00pm
